AltPrice

Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 31, 2026

AltPrice (“AltPrice”, “we”, “us”) is a Shopify app that lets merchants run alternative pricing campaigns by replacing the displayed storefront price and keeping checkout pricing in sync. This Privacy Policy explains what data the app accesses, how we use it, and the choices available to you. It applies to merchants who install AltPrice and to visitors of stores where the app is active.

1. Data we access and store

AltPrice is built to operate with the minimum data required to run pricing campaigns. We do not store data that identifies a store’s individual shoppers (buyers).

Merchant account data

When you install the app, Shopify provides a session that we store to authenticate your store. This may include your Shopify staff user’s name, email address, locale, and access tokens issued by Shopify. We use this solely to operate the app on your behalf.

Store configuration data

We store the settings you create in the app: pricing campaigns, discount rules, tiers, targeting rules (such as product tags, customer tag names, and country codes), shipping and payment visibility rules, theme setup state, and your billing plan status. Customer tag values are stored as plain strings used for targeting and are not customer profiles.

Product data cache

To resolve product identity quickly on the storefront, we cache product and variant identifiers and product tags for your store. This contains no personal data.

Storefront requests

When the app runs on your storefront, it requests product tag and theme selector data through Shopify’s authenticated App Proxy. These requests carry only product and variant identifiers and theme information — no shopper personal data, IP addresses, or tracking cookies are collected by the app.

2. Shopify permissions we request

With your authorization through Shopify, AltPrice requests access to the following scopes, each used only to deliver app functionality:

  • read_products, read_themes, read_markets, read_locales — to read your catalog, theme, markets, and languages so prices can be matched and displayed correctly.
  • read_customers — to support customer-tag-based campaign targeting.
  • write_discounts, write_delivery_customizations, write_payment_customizations — to apply campaign pricing and checkout visibility rules.
  • write_metaobjects, write_metaobject_definitions, write_app_proxy — to store pricing rules and serve the storefront runtime.

3. How we use data

  • To install, authenticate, and operate the app for your store.
  • To apply your pricing campaigns, discounts, and checkout visibility rules.
  • To determine the correct displayed price on your storefront and keep it consistent with checkout.
  • To manage your subscription plan and entitlements.
  • To provide support and troubleshoot issues you report.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising or cross-store profiling.

4. Subprocessors and third parties

We rely on the following service providers to deliver AltPrice:

  • Shopify — the platform the app runs on, providing authentication, the Admin API, Shopify Functions, and billing.
  • Cursor AI — used to automatically detect the price selectors in your store’s theme during setup. To do this, theme template content of your store is sent to Cursor AI for analysis. No shopper personal data is sent.

These providers process data only to perform services for us and are bound by their own terms and privacy commitments.

5. Billing

AltPrice uses Shopify Managed Pricing for subscriptions. All payment information is handled by Shopify; the app never receives or stores your payment card details. We only store your current plan, status, and billing interval to enforce entitlements.

6. Data retention and deletion

We retain merchant and configuration data for as long as the app is installed. AltPrice honors Shopify’s mandatory privacy webhooks:

  • customers/data_request and customers/redact — because AltPrice does not store customer-identifiable data, there is nothing to export or erase, and these requests are acknowledged accordingly.
  • shop/redact — when a store is redacted, we delete all store-scoped data, including campaigns, theme setup, app settings, the product cache, and the session.
  • When you uninstall the app, your session and product cache are removed.

7. Security

Access tokens and configuration are stored in a managed database and transmitted over encrypted connections. Storefront and App Proxy requests are verified using Shopify’s signing mechanisms. While no system can be guaranteed completely secure, we take reasonable measures to protect the data we hold.

8. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, and to restrict or object to certain processing. You can exercise most of these rights directly by managing your settings or uninstalling the app, or by contacting us using the details below.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be communicated through the app or other reasonable means.

10. Contact us
